Imphal, April 17:
The proscribed RPF today explained the facts and circumstances that led to its cadres gunning down a cadre of the KCP, Uttam, on April 9 near the Centre for Alcoholism and Substances Abuse at Langthabal.
In a statement, the outfit said that its cadres were pressed into service after matters came to light that one person, Ingen, posing as the DC of division number of 4 had threatened the rehab centre to close down while under the influence of alcohol.
The matter was viewed seriously as the RPF does not have a post such as DC no one by the name of Ingen either in division 4, said the statement.
Accordingly some RPF cadres went to the rehab centre to verify the matter.
On the day, the RPF cadres saw two persons standing near the gate of the rehab centre, said the statement and added that when the RPF men asked them to come for a talk, one of them whipped out a gun and fired towards them.
The RPF cadres did not immediately retaliate but urged them to come for the talk, said the statement.
However the armed man continued firing, said the outfit forcing the RPF cadres also to retaliate.
Only one bullet was fired that proved fatal, said the statement.
RPF never knew that the men involved in the case were KCP cadres, said the statement and explained that it came to know about the identity of the slain man only after the KCP offered salutes to Uttam.
A talk was held with the KCP and thereafter the RPF did not deem it proper to issue a clarification, said the statement.
However, it defies logic why Uttam alias Ingen should identify himself as a cadre of the RPF and assume a non-existent post while threatening the rehab centre to close down, said the statement.
Moreover Uttam's father led a mob and burnt the rehab centre to cinders.
Even Indian army who rushed in to douse the fire were dissuaded from doing so by Uttam's father who told them that the rehab centre was sheltering RPF cadres.
