In the major break through the Dist Fishery Dept today organized a �Dhareo Season Fish Fair� at the District Fishery Office premises Phun greitang, Ukhrul.
During the programme, Mohonlal Meena IAS DC, Ukhrul was the Chief Guest and K Sarat Kumar Singh Joint Director of Fisheries, Manipur was the president.
All together over 930kgs of various fishes were sold during the fair, the varieties of fishes like, Rohu, Marical, Catla, Common Calf, Grass Carp, Silver Carp apart from the dry fishes were sold on the fish fair.
Today Fish Fair was the first of its kind in the Dist Hqs.
The president on his speech stated that, Nutritional standard of fish consumption per capita is minimum 11kg yearly, he hastened to add that the number of fish required for the district is 13,000 metric tones however at present only 3500 metric tones were available.

is 3000 hectors of paddy-cum-Pisciculture of which 9000 metric tones of fishes can be produced if proper maintenance were given.
According to Dist Fishery Officer, if provided adequate facilities to undertake Pisciculture, a good number of unemployment youth could be benefited or rather solved easily in the dist.
He further added that lack of financial assistance toward the endeavour youths and negligence of the Govt is to be drawn for providing loans to the aspirant youth for uplifting socio-economic position and polity.

is quite suitable for fish farming and can produce around 10,000 to 20,000mt yearly if steps were systematically initiated, monitor and the markets were open.
At the moment, 60,000 hacter areas were suitable for fish farming on the hills but only 16,000 hecter were being availed so far.
During the programme the chief guest and the president were presented local made HAO/CLAY pot each respectively.
And the prizes on the fish fair goes to Mr.Jonathan Ramsan of Sarakhong, 2nd prize to M David of Hundung Z.
