As a response to the Union Mini- stry of Tribal Affairs inviting comments from the public and other interested parties on its Draft National Policy on Tribals, 2004, Centre for Organisation Research and Education (CORE) would beholding a three-day North Eastern Regional Assembly of Indigenous and Tribal People's Organisations at Assam beginning from June 2.AMUCO advisor Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Kuki Mothers' Association, Manipur president Rose Mangshi and a representative of ZUCAM, who were among the State's participating team told reporters at a press conference here today at they would be putting up suggestion on various issued to modify some areas of the draft policy , besides making some new proposals.
After the assembly, the Ministry would be holding a second and final review of the policy, they informed.
Various tribal groups, NGOs and individuals from the eight States of the region would be participating in the assembly.
The draft policy 2004 aimed at bringing Scheduled Tribes into the mainstream society through a multiprong approach for all round development of the socio-economic condition without affecting the distinct cultural identity of the community.
It covered formal education, traditional wisdom, heath, displacement and resettlement, forest villages, shifting cultivation, land alienation, intellectual property rights, tribal languages, primitive tribal groups, etc among others.
CORE would separately comment and raise constructive suggestions to the draft national tribal policy, a representative of the organisation said.
