Continuing with its efforts to introduce self sustaining civic action projects, 9 Sector Assam Rifles dedicated a "Vocational Training Centre" to the villagers at Phuram Khong, near Langthabal, Imphal on Jun 28.The centre has been constructed under the aegis of HQ 9 Sector Assam Rifles and was inaugurated by Brig VK Pillai, Commander, 9 Sector, Kangla.
In addition to a concrete building, it has eight knitting and stitching machines meant to provide vocational training to ladies of Phuram Khong and adjoining areas.
The VTC would go a long way in generating self employment to the locals and help the, needy, the Brigadier said.
The senior officers of the security forces also expressed their desire to take more such projects for the benefit of the local populace in the long run.
In a simple and dignified ceremony, the villagers presented a cultural programme in honour of the Brigadier.
CO of 19 Grewal Rifles was also present at the occasion.
Lt Gen Naidu appointed GOC14 Corps: Lt Gen ML Naidu has been appointed as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 14 Corps located in the Northern Sector, informed a PIB Defence Wing handout.
An alumni of National Defence Academy, Naidu was commissioned into 5 Rajput in December 1967 from the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun, the handout said.
Infantry conference: The 15th Infantry Centre Commandants' Conference started from today at 58 GTC, Shillong for the first time, said a PIB release.
The two day meeting is being attended by all the commandants of all Infantry Regimental Centres, the Conference is being presided over by Lt Gen Madan Gopal, AVSM the Director Gen of Infantry.
NCC expedition: NCC boys mountaineering expedition to Bhagirathi II Peak was flagged off by Lt Gen BK Bopanna, Director General NCC in New Delhi today.
Lt Col T Siva Kumar who successfully scaled the peak on June 14, 2004 led the team.
