Imphal, August 30:
The Zeliangrong Baudi (ZB) organised a felicitation function at Tamenglong Headquarters in honour of newly elected United Naga Council (UNC) president Samson Remei and his colleagues yesterday.
Together with the felicitation function, the ZB observed the 77th death anniversary of freedom fighter Haipou Jadonang.
Among others, the function was attended by Samson Remei, UNC information secretary Kohring Victor, finance secretary P Timothy, ZB president Ningtangpou Kamei and president of the All Zeliangrong Students' Union T Meeru.
Speaking at the occasion, Samson stated that they will work in accordance to the resolutions adopted in the Naga People's Conventions of 2001 and 2005 .
The UNC will stand steadfast for the cause and aspirations of Naga people.
It will also strive to bring the ongoing Indo-Naga peace talk to a better level, Samson said.
Exuding confidence that permanent peace will certainly become a reality in the region someday, he iterated that they have been fighting for that peace.
Noting that the Zeliangrong people, despite its large population, have been settling in three different States, Samson asserted that in tandem with unification of Naga tribes, Zeliangrong tribes will also be unified.
Yet, the UNC president assured that it would abstain from any activity which would hurt sentiments of other people settling together with Nagas while pursuing the Naga cause.
Rather, the UNC would work to maintain cordial relationship between Nagas and their neighbours, he added.
The felicitation function was followed by observance of Haipou Jadonang's death anniversary during which social worker Achun Kamei narrated the life story of the martyr.
