Imphal, November 29:
Coming down strongly on the remarks of Health Minister Ph Parijat that no complaint had been ever received in connection with lack of doctors and other health care facilities in the hill area of the State, Manipur Forward Youth Front (MAFYF) has termed it as lack of moral responsibility and integrity on the part of the Minister.
Addressing a press conference in this connection today, MAFYF president Sapamcha Kangleipal, quoting the Minister's remark published in some section of the press media, said 'it is not a question of receiving complaint or not.
It only shows the failure of governance'.
Along with a team of mediapersons, MAFYF had gone to inspect the condition of the health centres in Ukhrul district from November 21 to 25 and the report of the same appeared in the newspapers, Kangleipal said, adding that MAFYF understands the real condition of the health centres in Ukhrul district.
Moreover, MAFYF had today organised an inspection tour of the existing condition of three PHCs and other PHSCs in the Lamlai Assembly Constituency, which is the home constituency of the Health Minister himself.
Surprising, it was found out that the condition of the health centres in Lamlai area is even worst than that of the Ukhrul district, Kangleipal said.
He further informed apart from having only one doctor each in Lamlai PHC and Sawombung PHC, there are no adequate staff and medicines in these two health centres.
While the PHC at Yaingangpokpi was found locked.
Among the PHSCs, the one at Tellou is not functioning anymore, the one at Nongren has been shifted and attached with one LP School for the last 15 years and the one at Sekta is no better than a cowshed, Kangleipal said, adding other health centres inspected in Lamlai Assembly Constituency are no better than any of the said health centres.
So, without knowing the real condition of the health centres in his own Constituency, the Health Minister should not try to put the blame on the people of Ukhrul for not lodging complaint.
Instead, he should admit the failure of the governance, Kangleipal asserted.
The remark of the Health Minister that no complaint had been received apart from writings in the press media also goes to show his disrespect of the media which is considered the fourth pillar of the democracy, MAFYF president said.
Calling upon all the doctors and the medical staff concerned of the health centres in Ukhrul to go to their respective place of postings without waiting any instruction from the Government within three days, Kangleipal said that MAFYF would be conducting a follow up inspection visit soon and if any of the doctors and medical staff were found absent, they would be dealt with seriously.
