The chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has joined the people of the State in condoling the loss (demise) of international cyclist Huidrom Tombisana who succumbed to injuries at a Tamil Nadu Hospital on December 25.The CM in his condolence message described Tombisana as one of the best women cyclists and 'her demise is an irreparable loss to the entire sporting community of the State and the country.
Ibobi also shared the grief of the bereaved family and conveyed prayer for peaceful rest of her soul in the heavenly abode.
Tombisana met with a fatal accident at Erode on December 22 while practising for the 13th national Road Race Cycling Championship which began at the southern State today.
Her body was brought to Imphal Airport yesterday where sportspersons of the State in large number received tearfully.
A regular medal winner in her favourite event in both the national and international level since venturing into the sports discipline at a young age, Tombisana was also a sub Inspector in the Police Department.
Her recent outstanding performances include racing to three gold medals in the 33rd National Games at Guwahati and same number of the yellow metal, one silver and a bronze in the 61st Senior National Track Cycling Championship at Hyderabad in 2006.At the international arena she competed at the 12th Asian Cycling Championship held in December last at Ludhiana, 10th South Asian Games in Colombo (2006) and Track Asian Cup Cycling Championship at Kuala Lumpur.
Her medal haul in these competitions include two silver medals.
apart from the Manipur Cycling Association, the Manipur Olympic Association, sports Authority of india-NERC, All Manipur Sports Association, All manipur Football Association, All Manipur Volleyball Association, Athletic Association of Manipur, Imphal east District Cycling Association, manipur Fencing Association and many other civil society organisations had also conveyed condolence messages on the untimely demise of a champion sportsperson.
Tombisana was born to Huidrom Iboyaima and Memma of Langmeidong Mamang Leikai in Thoubal district.
