Imphal, Jul 27: Despite being a partner in the Congress led SPF coalition Government, the CPI has decided to go it alone in the forthcoming Assembly election and a decision to this effect was taken during its 5th CPI State Council meeting.

The decision to go it alone was adopted during the CPI State Council meeting held at Irabot Park, Lamlai Chalou on July 22 after minutely studying the political situation in the State.

Sources from Irabot Bhawan said that following the decision of the Congress to field candidates in all the 60 Constituencies, the CPI has decided to contest in not less than 30 of the 40 seats in the valley area and to field its candidates at Chandel AC and Thanlon AC in the hill area.

The CPI has also developed serious differences with the Congress over the policies and programmes adopted by the Government, said the source adding that this was another major factor for the CPI's decision not to link up with the Congress in the election.

The CPI has already constituted its Election Committee for the forthcoming polls with L Iboyaima as the Chairman.

The strength of the Committee is seven.

Kendra level committees have also been constituted.

A decision to start the process of constituting the polling booth committee, electoral roll, working out the number of women and men in the electoral roll, the number of security personnel and civil employees of the Government was also adopted during the meeting.

The final report of the processes being taken up will be submitted to the CPI National secretary AB Bardhan and North East in charge Pramod Gogoi during their three day visit to the State from September 22.CPI will field four candidates in Bishnupur district which has six ACs, seven in Thoubal which has eight ACs, six in Imphal East which has eight ACs and to contest in all the eight ACs in Imphal West.
