A panic stricken 77-year old woman died of shock while another woman sustained injuries by stray bullets during a fierce gun-battle between cadres of two warring underground outfits at Lhangjol village, 2 kms west of Churachandpur Police station at around 9 pm yesterday.
According to information received by the press, last night's fierce gun-battle at Lhangjol village might be between the cadres of KNA and KNF.
One cadre from each of the group were killed in the incident.
Though the police have also heard about the death of two cadres, one each from each group in the gun-battle, it could not give an official record since the bodies have not been recovered.
The 77-year old woman who died due to fright during the gun-battle has been identified as Dimkhoman Khongsai w/o late Khupkhothang of Lhangjol village and the other victim who was hit by stray bullet as Chongjalam (35) w/o Jangkholal of Lhangjol.
Stray bullets hit on her chest, thigh etc.
She was immediately evacuated to District Hospital Churachandpur for medical treatment.
The post-mortem on the body of the old woman who died of fright was conducted at District Hospital Churachandpur today and later handed over to her family members.
