Two individuals arrested by police in connection with the killing of Constable Thomas have been remanded to police custody for the second time.
7th Bn MR personnel Dironbi Rongmei of Langthabal Chingthak Kabui Khun and private driver of a senior Minister, Thangboi Singson of New Lambulane were remanded to police custody till March 5 by the Court of CJM Imphal today.
Constable Thomas L Kamei of Langol Laimanai, Ramgailong was killed in a group clash among police personnel at North AOC in the night of February 21. The same court remanded the two accused to police custody till today before it was extended to March 5 by another issued today.
Meanwhile, the corpse of Thomas has been handed over to family members today.
Until today, the JAC constituted against the killing has been refusing to claim the corpse bargaining for fulfilment of several demands.
Post mortem examination was already performed yesterday.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by the JAC Against Brutal Killing of Thomas L Kamei said that the bereaved family was given Rs one lakh as interim relief from the Chief Minister�s discretionary fund.
The Chief Minister has also reportedly assured the JAC that one prime suspect S Suresh (SI) would be booked and arrested.
The Chief Minister also gave assurance to provide a job to the next of kin of the deceased as well as pension and other service benefits.
Thomas L Kamei is survived by his wife and two daughters.
