Kuki Women's Union, Manipur and Thadou Students' Association, Sadar Hills jointly organised a one-day free medical camp cum HIV/AIDS awareness programme at Primary Health Centre, Motbung today.
Organised under the sponsorship of CARE, over 700 people including women, children and elderly people from in and around the area were provided free medical treatment by a medial team of five doctors, 9 nurses and two pharmacists.
The required medicines were also distributed among the patients free of cost.
Speaking as chief guest of the simple inaugural function held, president of Kuki Women's Union, Manipur Rose Mangshi Haokip observed that along with development of human civilisation, many diseases which were never heard of earlier started affecting the people.
So it is essential to keep ourselves fit and healthy by taking up necessary precautionary measures.
Without waiting for the Government to act, we should contribute our mite in this regard, she exhorted.
The president of Thadou Students' Association, Sadar Hills Lamminlun Singsit presided over the function.
Along with the free medical treatment camp, an awareness programme on HIV/AIDS was also conducted by resource persons and subject experts for the benefit of the people.
Talking to mediapersons after the camp, CMO Kangpokpi L Hangshing who led the medical team said most of the villagers who turned up at the camp were suffering from cough, fever and dysentery.
But there was no cases of TB and malaria have been detected.
