Under the sponsorship of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, All Manipur Ophthalmological Society organised a day-long discussion session on Diabetic Retinopathy at the conference hall of Hotel Nirmala here today.
During the first session, Consultant of Vitreo-Retinal Surgery & Trauma, AIIMS Dr Dipendra Vikram Singh and Dr Th Premchand of RIMS respectively spoke on the topics of 'Advanced Retinal Imaging' and 'Profile of Diabetes Millitus in Manipur' as resource persons.
In the second session held in the afternoon, Dr Gyanendra Singh spoke on the topic of 'Diabetic Retinopathy-Problem Statement Staging /Clarification', Dr K Romen on 'Current Management Practices in Diabetic Retinopathy' and Dr Dipendra Vikram Singh on 'Recent advances in Diabetic Retinopathy management' as resource persons.
Dr Th Biren and Dr Bajao were penal members of the discussion session moderated by Dr M Lala.
RIMS launches new course: The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal is one of the four prestigious medical institutes in the country which were video linked for the Diploma in Hearing Language and Speech Course.
The course is conducted by the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing, Mysore.
The three other institutes are Maulana Azad Medical College, New Delhi, JIPMER, Pondicherry and AIIPMR, Mumbai.
The course was formally launched on Saturday morning by R.K.Shrivastava, Director General of Health Services, Government of India.
Dr Vijayalakshmi Basavaraj, Director, All India Institute of Speech and Hearing Mysore, briefly talked to Prof L.Fimate, Director of RIMS during the inaugural function.
In his reply Prof Fimate said that he could not be physically present in the inaugural function in view of official works here.
However he was thankful to her and the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for including RIMS in the list of four institutes where the course was opened.
Prof Fimate and Dr Basavaraj had signed the MoU for the inclusion of RIMS in the list on April 10,2007.During the one year course the 20 students in RIMS will be imparted through distance mode.
The inaugural function was observed in the ENT department, RIMS.
Prof W Gyneswor, Dean (Academics) and Prof Th.Ibohal, head of department, ENT also briefly spoke over the distance mode.
The students had already been admitted and their classes through video conferencing have been started.
The opening of this course is yet another step forward for RIMS which is one of the prestigious medical colleges in the country, according to a statement issued by media advisor of RIMS.
