Imphal, December 24: Two suspected KCP cadres were gunned down by personnel of 24 Assam Rifles at Govajang village, about 2 kms north of Moreh Police Station today at about 3 pm.

A statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) informed that the two UG cadres were trying to infiltrate into Indian territory at Govajang.

According to report submitted to Moreh PS by 24 AR, the AR men were lying in ambush when two youths came to Govajang village from Myanmar side in a suspicious manner.

When the AR team asked them to stop, the youths opened fire in a bid to escape but were killed in retaliatory fire, claimed the report.

The corpses were handed over to Moreh PS at about 6:15 pm.

It is reported that two 9 mm pistols and 11 live rounds were recovered from the deceased cadres.

It is suspected that the two might be s/s Captain Tombi and s/s Lt Rajesh.

Body identified: identity of the youth who was found shot dead by unidentified gunmen in between Maryland and Salungpham under Thoubal Police Station on December 22 afternoon has been established as a former cadre of the UNLF.

He was one Laishram Surchandra alias Ngouba (26) s/o Kumar of Heirok Part-II Chingdonpok.

He is said to be a former cadre of UNLF and the date of his marriage already been fixed following elopement with a girl.
