Imphal, October 22 2008: Inspite of infrastructural inadequacy the spirit and energy of young students came to the forefront as the annual Children Camp cum Sports Meet 2008 of Model English School, Sinakeithei under Ukhrul district began today.

The two day event was inaugurated with president of Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) N Rajendra and former Lok Sabha candidate D Loli Adani as the chief guest and president respectively.

Presenting the welcome address, Principal of Model English School V Khamrang expressed that the annual programme is being organised under the objective that such event would inculcate sense of responsibility among the pupil who would be the pillar of the future society.

Moreover, participation in sports activities could instill discipline and competitive spirit among the children apart from promoting harmonious environment amongst people of different community settled in and around Sinakeithei, Khamrang said.

Recounting that since 1991 when students of Model English School first appeared in the matriculation examination conducted under BSEM pass percentage had been a healthy 90 percent, the Principal also highlighted that most of the students are from economically unsound families thereby impeding development of the institute.

Pointing to difficulties in expansion of classroom in sync with the pupils' strength, non-availability of hostel facilities and lack of hygienic water due to financial constraints, Khamrang desired that such inadequacies hampering further development of the school be addressed on priority basis.

In his address as the chief guest, Rajendra emphasised that need of the hour is adaptation and application of modern and suitable system of teaching as well as focus on local context such as history and tradition of the indigenous people which could instill sense of belongingness and spirit of patriotism.

Pointing out that condition of road linking Mahadev to Sinakeithei is far from being travel-friendly, Rajendra called upon the people to raise their voice so that inconveniences being endured by people of Sinakeithei could be highlighted to the authorities concerned.

Speaking on the occasion, L Adani iterated that without proper education expecting development and prosperity of the society would be far fetched and called upon the people to cooperate and contribute their mite so as to enable school authorities run the institution efficiently.

Besides sports activities, the students would be taking part in literary and quiz competitions.
