Imphal, May 22: Two youths who were shot by unidentified gunmen today at around 2:40 pm near the temple of Lai Nongshaba of Kwakeithel Laishram Leikai under Singjamei police station.

According to information received from the incident site, one Maruti car was seen heading towards the spot followed by sounds of gun shots.

After the car drove away from the site, one youth was found dead while another one was found wounded.

The injured youth identified as Shougrakpam Mocha (23) s/o (L) Kula of Singjamei Mayengbam Leikai is now being treated at RIMS after he was rushed there by police.

He sustained a bullet injury in his right thigh.

According to Mocha, the deceased is one N Momo (24) s/o Ibotombi of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.

Bullet wounds were observed on the head and chest parts of N Momo, his hands bound together and blind folded with cellotapes.

It is reported that Momo was earlier a cadre of PREPAK who was released recently from prison.

In connivance with Mocha, Momo served a demand letter of Rs 5 lakhs on one Shyam of Hiyangthang in the name of PREPAK on May 18.They again went to Shyam's home yesterday and further intimated him to bring the amount today morning at a hotel in Singjamei.

While they were waiting for Shyam at the appointed place today morning, some suspected genuine PREPAK cadres came and pulled them up after which they were awarded the punishments.
