Imphal, April 22:
Citing lack of sincerity on the part of State Government, the striking JAC of AMTUC and AMGEO has turned down appeal of the Chief Minister to call off the indefinite cease work strike.
In a statement, publicity and information secretary of the JAC L Priyobratta contended that if willing, the Govt can fulfil demands of the JAC and it would not have any impact on financial condition of the State.
While tabling the budget of 2006-07, the Chief Minister had himself assured that there was no diversion of amount from plan to non-plan.
This only shows that paying 18 percent DA/DR to pensioners would not affect the plan allocation and the amount of the 12th Finance Commission is sufficient enough to meet the demands of the pensioners.
The State Government should not try to mislead the people by maintaining that developmental works would take a back seat if further financial benefits are given to Government employees.
Even if Govt suffer from deficit, sufficient fund for salary and other payments of employees are being allotted by Finance Commission, it pointed out.
As for extension of retirement age of employees from 58 to 60 years, JAC wondered why Govt could not implement it when Centre and other States have already extended service superannuation period.
