Imphal, October 21 2010: Political parties, leaders, civil society organisations, etc.

have demanded from the Government of India to know whereabouts of the Chairman of insurgent organisation United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Manipur, RK Meghen @ Sana Yaima, who has allegedly been arrested by a combined team of Bangladesh Intelligence and India's intelligence agency�Reaserch Analysis Wing (RAW).

Shyamsunder Sapam, Secretary of Manipur State Committee, CPI (Marxist-Leninist), in a press release, has said that the International Department of the party has sent letters to the authorities concerned of Bangladesh and India urging them to let the whereabouts of RK Meghen, Chairman of UNLF, known to the people.

It is quite unfortunate that the uncertain status of RK Meghen at present has created confusion and panic in the minds of the people.

The CPI (ML) does not subscribe to the confusing statement given by Union Home Secretary GK Pillai regarding the reported arrest of RK Meghen.

The statement has given rise to suspicion as to whether there has been some fishy going on behind the arrest of the UNLF Chairman.

It has also raised suspicion as to whether RK Meghen would have been involuntarily disappeared secretly, the press release said.

It shows that the Government of India is not sincere enough to deal with the political problems of theNorth East.

Recently, one leader of NSCN (IM) was arrested from the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu and claimed that he was arrested from Bihar, the press release said.

Keeping the arrested UNLF leader for over 20 days without divulging his whereabouts is a violation of human rights, which has made the Indian democracy a mockery.

In this regard, the CPI (ML), Manipur State Committee has informed the National Committee, and its International Department has sent letters to the authorities and leaders of Bangladesh and India insisting them on disclosing the whereabouts of the arrested Manipur rebel leader.

The party also demanded to ensure fundamental rights to the arrested leader and a fair trial under the laws of the land, the CPI(ML)'s press release said adding that the party would extend all possible help in detecting the whereabouts of RK Meghen.

Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL) has taken strong exception to the failure on part of Bangladesh and Indian authorities to produce the Chairman of UNLF, RK Meghen @ Sana Yaima after he was arrested from Dhaka.

Information and Public Relation Secretary of AMKIL, L Gyaneshwori said in a press release today that the AMKIL strongly condemns the trend of handing over of dead bodies of persons who were arrested instead of producing them before the public for necessary prosecution for their acts of offences as per the laws.

If the news report of arrest of RK Meghen @ Sana Yaima in Bangladesh and handing him over to India is true, he should be handed over back to the state authority for legal prosecution and a fair trial, the AMKIL press release said.

Instead of handing him over to the authority concerned, if he has been forcibly made to disappear, AMKIL would not remain silent for for the violent consequences that may come about thereof, the press release warned.

In the meanwhile, Manipur State Council of Communist Party of India has also demanded accurate information about RK Meghen @ Sana Yaima from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India.

The State Secretariat of the party today held a meeting and seriouly disccused the matter of RK Meghen's unknown whereabouts, L Iboyaima, Secretary, Manipur State Council CPI informed in a press release.

On the other hand, the party also expressed its condolence over the untimely demise of the party's member comarade Khundrakpam Indrajit, who led intensive farmers' agitations in Bishnupur district, was once jailed for taking part in the agitation for statehood, and also served the people of Bishnupur side as a Pradhan.

The party expressed its sharing the grief of the family.

Com Kh Indrajit, hailing from Ningthoukhong, was 95 years old.
