Imphal, September 21:
The Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has flatly rejected the statement of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Md Allaudin Khan that four Gram Panchayats of Sadar Hills are not under the Autonomous District Council.
Speaking to reporters, SHDDC vice-president Angam Haokip said that since elections to Autonomous District Councils were held in 1972-73, Panchayat elections have been stopped in Sadar Hills.
The four Gram PanchayatsKalapahar GP, Santlabari GP, Tulibari GP and Koubru Laikha GP where Panchayat elections were held, not only have participated in District Council elections but one of their representative was also elected vice-president of Autonomous District Council, Angam asserted.
The statement of the Panchayati Raj Minister that the four Gram Panchayats were not included in the District Council was totally incorrect and misleading, he alleged adding that the SHDDC boycotted the repoll held today in these Gram Panchayats.
Reacting to the query of MLA Haokholet Kipgen of Saitu A/C as to why the election in Charharjare was disrupted while there was no such disturbance in other polling stations, the SHDDC vice-president said that the Panchayat elections was boycotted in all Sadar Hills area and there was no question of impartiality on the matter.
