Imphal, February 21:
Expressing resentment over alleged denial of Travelling Allowance (TA) for election duty, personnel of Manipur Fire Services have decided to stay away from election duty from February 25 if all the pending amount of the TA are not paid by February 24. In this connection, the aggrieved Fire Services personnel staged a Wakat Meepham at the Fire Services Headquarters today evening.
Talking to mediapersons, the protestors demanded that they be given the same sort of treatment accorded to personnel of the Home Department who were given TA for election duty.
In accordance to a Government order, the personnel of Fire Services under the Home Department too have been discharging their election duty round the clock since February 1 at election offices of Imphal East, Imphal West, Government Press, District Headquarters, Sub-Divisional Headquarters and outposts of the Fire Services.
But their TA have not been given so far, they lamented, adding that the amount of the ration money being given to the Fire Service personnel too is less.
Demanding release of the pending TA amount within February 24, the aggrieved Fire Services personnel have made it clear that they would cease all election related duties from the next day if the demand is not fulfilled.
However, they would continue to do other normal duty of fire fighting, they added.
