CCpur reels under spate of burglary

Chura-chandpur police cracked one of the most challenging burglary cases it has ever probed, apprehending a youth last night who had not only looted a college but walked away with booty for extortion even as the town-ship reels under a spate of daring break-ins .
A team of the district police led by its second OC James Vaiphei and an Investigation Officer of the loot along with subsequent extortion cases of VK Tawna College, Chinza-salem Kipgen, arrested a 19 year old accused in the case, according to SP, Chura-chandpur Rakesh Balwal .
The arrest is vital for the police as it was one of the most challenging cases they have witnessed in recent times, and came barely three days after the college was robbed and the looted booty traded in exchange for cash .
The arrested youth identified as Paulianhau Lengen, (19) son of Lianboi Lengen of Red-Cross Road reportedly broke into the College office at about 1 am on August 17.He walked away with some cash, a couple of laptops and files containing crucial documents.
He also left a letter at the Principal's table expressing his willingness to trade the looted booty for Rs 2 lakh .
As the police mounted their investigation, they sought assistance of the State cyber cell with whose leads they managed to eventually cracked the case in record time.
The college authorities, sources said had in the meantime kept the suspect engaged and made payments of about Rs 50,000 in exchange for the files but with marked denominations .
The youth had supposedly outplayed his victims during the trade that reportedly took place one day ahead of his arrest at a secluded outskirt location and managed to walk away without revealing his where- abouts or his identity .
When he was tracked down by the police last night, the accused had already bought an expensive smartphone from the ransom money but the remaining cash recovered from his possession reportedly matched with the traded denominations.
Other items including the laptops were also recovered by the police .
Meanwhile, cases of burglary in Churachanpdur town have escalated in recent weeks with three cases reported today alone.
At about 4.30 am, a man who tried to steal a gas cylinder and other items from Ching-Tam Hotel located in the vicinity of the district hospital was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
The accused, which was handed over to the police, reportedly attacked and injured one of the people with a knife who were pursuing him .
Hotel owner Nanda Kumar said he had been robbed of his belongings about three times in the past, all in the morning when he attended to nature's call at a toilet located outside and left the doors unlocked .
The house of Niangta, of Nehru Marg was also ransacked by burglars around noon today.
The burglars also shattered the walls of her house when she and other members were out attending Church .
A cooking gas cylinder was also looted from a residence at Lanva last night while Ebenezer Academy located at New Lamka also saw intruder breaking into their office, one day after VK Tawna College was looted .
Taking serious note of these burglary cases, the district police have beefed up security measures, said the SP .
