Imphal, Jun 17:
Ahead of the Patriots' Day observance on August 13 this year, the Sahid Minar erected in remembrance to Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General and numerous other sons of the soil who laid down their lives for the sake of motherland would be beautified with glass tiles.
Disclosing this while talking to mediapersons today on the sideline of inspecting the developmental works being taken up at the historic BT park where the memorial pillar stands today, PDA Chairman MLA Kangujam Ranjit said the step has been taken up as part of the ongoing work of developing the Park.
This arrangement would also solved the problem of renovation/repairing of the Park as well as the Pillar every year for the August 13 function, the MLA assured.
The MLA informed that leaving aside the replica of the Kanglasha, all the three pillars of the Sahid Minar would be pasted with glass tiles and carpet grass grown in the surrounding compound.
Iron grill would also been put up to a high of 8 feet on top of the 3-feet RCC walls erected on the eastern side of the park so that the passer-by could also see the beauty of the Park, the MLA disclosed.
Over and above these, the fountains and the flood lights of the Park would also be repaired, the MLA said.
Later on the MLA also went to inspect the work being taken up for construction of a memorial at Yicham Yaicham Pat where the mortal remains of Bir Tikendrajit had been put to rest.
Ranjit disclosed that the most interesting and unique feature of the memorial under construction would be the inscription of the life history of Bir Tikendrajit on the rear wall of the memorial complex.
The place which has been neglected for so long would soon become the main attraction of the people of the State as well as those coming from outside, the MLA hoped.
The entrance gate to the memorial complex would also be constructed keeping in mind the cultural tradition of the place, he informed, adding the slope stair would be maintained for the convenience of the aged and handicapped persons who would like to visit the memorial.
To beautify the memorial, State Horticulture Department has also been entrusted with the task of planting flowers and other ornamental plants in and around the complex, the MLA said, adding that in due course of time the memorials of other martyrs like Thangal General, etc would also be constructed.
