Imphal, October 16:
The Joint Action Committee for Protection of 91Meitei Langol Patta Land/Residential Areas has urged the Government to revoke its order to set up the NIT at Lamphelpat and warned that if it fails to do so then the JAC would be constrained to launch a series of agitation.
In a statement issued to the press today, the JAC said that after the Government issued an order on September 18 to set up the NIT at Lamphelpat, it had held three meetings to oppose the move of the Government.
The JAC has taken note three different sites have already been offered for the NIT to come up, two in the hill districts and one at Imphal West.
The decision of the Govt will displace thousands of residents from their homesteads and destroy the wetlands of Lamphel, said the JAC and added that security is a flimsy ground.
That Langol and Lamphel areas do not offer the expected security of the Govt should not be forgotten, it said and argued that on the contrary these areas are deemed vulnerable.
The JAC also condemned the adamant attitude of the Government.
