Imphal, June 15:
Demanding immediate initiation of operations to rescue a reportedly abducted 16 year old girl, residents of Kongkham village in Bishnupur district have threatened to launch a series of intense agitation in case the State Government fails to act promptly and book the kidnapper immediately.
The alleged abductor Chirom Tiken Meitei (44), of Wahengkhuman of the same district is also a noted criminal involved in cases of kidnapping and abduction of girls earlier, they alleged.
Khangembam Kanhai, secretary of the local club said Kongkham Bijeta (16) of Kongkham village was abducted by Tiken on May 25 and since then he has not been arrested even as a complaint was lodged with the police.
" We are ready to launch a series of agitation if the Government fails to rescue Bijeta and punish the accused who is already a married man having four children", Khangembam said at a press conference today afternoon.
Meanwhile acting on a complaint on the matter the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) has asked the State Director General of Police (DGP) yesterday to take up immediate action to rescue the girl.
Kongkham Jugeshor Singh, father of the abducted girl and leaders of some local social organisations have already filed a petition.
The MHRC headed by its chairperson Justice (retired) WA Shishak also asked the DGP to submit a detailed report on the matter by June 21.Meanwhile, the Commission has also registered the matter for inquiry under the relevant provisions of Section 12 of the Protection of Human Rights Act, 1993.According to case dossiers, in the evening of May 25 the accused came with two other accomplices in a van, dragged the victim girl and fled away.
The accused Tiken is a noted criminal, "who with his armed gang have abducted as many as six young girls earlier", it mentioned.
Later the local elders of the victim's side went to the accused family to bring back the victim.
Even as the family of the accused assured that she would be handed over to her family by May 28, Bijeta was never returned to her family.
On May 28 at about 11 pm, the abducted girl rang up her father asking him to rescue her from a room of Hotel Bheigo where she was locked up by the accused and his two accomplices.
Soon after, her father and some local people arrived at the hotel but the accused had already left the hotel, mentioned the dossier.
On June 6, an unknown person who identified himself as accused Tiken called up the victim's father and asked why he (victim's father) had harassed his (accused) family by sending police repeatedly.
Claiming that he dealt in a big business of import and export and that they were putting up at Mumbai , the accused went on to say that they were engaged in filming adult movies for export.
Though an FIR was registered with Nambol police station, no specific action has been initiated to rescue the girl or to book the accused till date.
