Imphal, June 12: The killing of 11 people at Moreh by unidentified gunmen on June 9 continue to prick the conscience of the people of Manipur, with no let up in condemning the mindless acts along with a cry for peace and reconciliation.

The Former Presiding Officers' Forum, Manipur in a statement said that a meeting was held at the office chamber of the Speaker yesterday and expressed deep concern over the Moreh incidents.

The Forum has also appealed to all to refrain from such violence and work towards promoting peace and communal harmony.

Sharing the grief and pain of the bereaved families, the All Tribal Chiefs' Association, Manipur in a statement today said that it condemns the mindless killing of 11 persons at Moreh and appealed to all to refrain from such violent activities.

In a statement the United Muslims Council, Manipur said that it strongly condemns the killing of innocent civilians at Moreh on June 9.Such killings do nothing except fan communal distrust and tension, it said and added that the two sides should work to ensure that such ugly incidents do not recur in the future.

Expressing deep concern over the Moreh incidents, the Tarahei Muslim Women Welfare Association appealed to all to shed communal tendencies and added that the time has come for all to study whether there is a third party in fomenting communal tension.

All community should live together in peace and amity to ensure a better Manipur for all, it added.

The Thangmeiband Apunba Nupi Lup has also expressed its staunch opposition to the killing of 11 people at Moreh and added that exposing children and women to such hardships and the acts of arson should be condemned by all.

The time is right for civil society organisations to intervene and chalk out a long lasting solution so that the people can live together in peace and harmony, it noted.

The Meetei National Front said that any communal distrust and stand off will be to the benefit of the common enemies of the people of Manipur.

In a statement, MNF said that the people should not fall prey to the devilish schemes hatched by some third parties.

Strongly condemning the Moreh incident, NIU-CAMO said that all the people of Manipur should work together to ensure that the age old ties among the communities do not snap.

The Young Voluntary Organisation has also called upon everyone to restore peace and communal harmony and not fall prey to the communal politics of third parties.

The Ching-Tam Apunba Sheishak Lup in a statement while condemning the incident said that people should not be taken in by the politics of mischief makers and urged all to pool in their thoughts so that such incidents do not recur.

The United Clubs' Organisation noted that all should be aware of the fact that all are brothers and they should not be led astray.

Taking serious note of the incidents, the Union of Social Upliftment said that it is unfortunate that the KNA/KNO has fallen prey to the divide and rule policy pursued by some interest groups and added that the killings of 11 persons including 5 civilians at Moreh was senseless It is time for all civil society organisations to come together and work out a long lasting solution.
