Imphal, November 11 2010: Stating that any untoward incident that may occur during the 15 hours general strike, those defying the strike call should be held solely accountable, the 17 civil organisations which called the general strike on November 12 has appealed to the general public to support the strike.

A joint press release issued by the civil organisations raised serious apprehension if the indigenous people should disappear completely from the land on account of rampant human rights violation being perpetrated continuously in the State for the last many years behind several black laws which are otherwise not found in any other part of the world.

"If a leader like RK Meghen alias Sanayaima can be concealed for more than a month, what would be the fate of the general public?", the civil organisations wondered.

If on the contrary, some section of people try to defy and project the general strike in wrong light, it would be most unfortunate, it cautioned.

It's time people of the land figure out their responsibility in solving the over 50-year old Indo-Manipur political conflict through democratic ways as per wish of Manipur people.

They further expressed confidence that vehicle association, private vehicle owners, traders, shopkeepers, Govt employees and all the people of Manipur would extend solidarity to the cause of the general strike and support it.

They also called upon the public to share due responsibility in future mass movements aimed at finding out the location of Sanayaima alias Meghen.

Particularly addressing women vendors, the civil organisations stated that keeping the whereabouts of Meghen a secret since he was arrested on September 29 last is against humanity.

It is for this reason that the civil organisations came together against concealing the whereabouts of Meghen.

When the Govt of India has the audacity to keep it secret the whereabouts of Meghen who sincerely love Manipur and is waging an armed movement to bring a political solution to the Indo-Manipur political conflict according to wishes of the people, the people of Manipur need not welcome the Indian leader, they stated.

They further appealed to the women vendors to bear with the day's hardships and share due responsibility in the collective effort towards establishing the whereabouts of Sanayaima alias RK Meghen.

Sonia Gandhi, is the de facto head of the Government of India which is blatantly violating human rights by keeping the whereabouts of Meghen a secret.

As such, there no reason for the people of Manipur to welcome Sonia Gandhi.

Rather than working to bring a political solution to the Indo-Manipur conflict as per international laws and principles and in accordance to the wishes of the people, the Govt of India has been keeping Manipur under military by deploying innumerable security personnel and stockpiling massive arms and weapons.

By imposing laws/acts like AFSPA 1958 which lack any humane face, the Government of India has been consistently trying to muffle the justified voice of the people.

Under such draconian Acts, many people have been killed, many others forced to disappear involuntarily and many women raped while a large number of people have been crippled because of extreme torture by security forces.

Demanding disclosure of the whereabouts of Sanayaima alias RK Meghen and resolution of the Manipur-India political conflict through political means, the civil organisations reiterated their appeal for support to the 15 hours general strike from 2 am to 5 pm of November 12 .
