Imphal, November 11: Not lagging behind other political parties, State Unit of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is all set to kick off full-steam campaign to woo the voters for the ensuing election to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly.

'Though we have not fixed the exact date for the campaign, it might be kicked off in the first week of December', State Unit NCP chief Radhabinod Koijam told The Sangai Express.

He informed that party's election manifestos has already been drafted and only a final touch is neede before it is dedicated to the people on an auspicious day.

Koijam, a former Chief Minister, claimed that many sitting MLAs have sent feelers to join NCP.

The matter would be discussed and considered on basis of their commitment and sincerity towards the cause of the party and the people of Manipur, he added.

In connection with the campaign, party leaders like Sharad Pawar, Tariq Anwar, PA Sangma, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel among others have intimated to visit the State, Koijam informed, adding that the dates of their arrival would be announced very soon.

On being asked, Koijam said many a leaders of other political parties who have lost confidence of getting tickets from their respective parties have send feelers to contest in the election on NCP tickets.

After assessing the whole scenario in terms of the growing strength of NCP 'we would field maximum number of dynamic candidates who would come out triumph', Koijam said.

He, however, declined to give the number of candidates to be fielded by saying 'it would be premature to say at this stage'.

Koijam further informed that NCP would stage a sit-in-protest demonstration at New Delhi on November 22 to show solidarity to Irom Chanu Sharmila's fight against AFSPA and the people's long standing demand to repeal the repressive Act.

Besides himself, party's National youth president Conrad Sangma, general secretary Binod Kumar and other youth wing leaders would take part in the demonstration, he said.
