Of the two 5th Assam Rifles personnel, who were attacked with knives by some unidentified armed persons while they were coming to Imphal in a passenger bus yesterday, one of them has succumbed to his injuries.
According to police report, Naik Runkhna Ramana (21) of Srika Kalum district in Andhra Pradesh succumbed to his injuries at RIMS in the wee hours of today.
Apart from stabbing wounds on his head and both hands, there were also two bullet marks on his back.
Taking leave to visit his native place, Ramana was coming along with two other personnel from the Maram post in Senapati district when some unidentified armed persons intercepted the passenger bus in which they were travelling near Khonghampat Mantri Leikai last night.
From there, the bus was taken to a spot a little further away from NH-39 and after singling out the three AR personnel, the armed persons started attacking them with knives.
Of the three AR personnel two of them were stabbed while the other managed to escape and reported the matter at the AR transit camp at Minuthong, Imphal.
The other injured personnel identified as Mahesh, also from Andhra Pradesh, is currently undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, the post-mortem of Ramana was conducted at the mortuary of RIMS.
Sekmai police station have registered a case and started an investigation into the incident.
