During the first meeting of the Preparatory Committee For Unification of Regional Political Parties of Manipur today, the constituent partiesMPP, FPM and DRPP have unanimously agreed to form a combined regional party.
The meeting presided by MPP president L Borajao was attended by the leaders, MLAs and office bearers of the three constituent parties.
However, former president of MPP O Joy was present at today's meeting.
The leaders of the three parties decided to work together under the banner of a single party.
Moreover, it was also agreed that the proposed party would have only one symbol, one banner and a single constitution.
The existing office of MPP would serve as the office of the proposed combined party.
The meeting also agreed to invite the MSCP to join the new political entity.
The next sitting of the Preparatory Committee on August 9 will take a final decision on the name, flag and symbol of the combined party.
According to information received by the press, there are reports of proposals from FPM to name the combined outfit as Manipur People's Federal Party so as to retain the image of MPP and at the same time incorporating the structure of FPM which has 13 standing MLAs in the State Assembly.
Even as the three parties have agreed to adopt the flag of MPP for the proposed joint party, there has been a proposal from the FPM to include its symbol of the Sun in addition to the MPP symbol of bicycle to avoid any confusion with the symbol of Samajwadi Party whose symbol is also a bicycle.
