After remaining shut for the last few days owing to huge monetary demand from an underground organisation, the stockists of various pharmaceutical companies operating in State were made to open by the police today.
According to police sources, this step has been taken up in view of the difficulties faced by the people due to shortage of medicines in the State after a serious discussion on the matter by the higher authorities.
Consequently, at the instruction of the higher authorities a special police team went to different places and made the stockists of the various pharmaceutical companies operating at Imphal to pull up their shutters from 11 am today.
This drive would continue, added the police sources.
On receiving news about the opening up of the stockists, concerned people of the pharmacists were seen thronging in front of their respective offices of the stockists and collect as much medicines of different kinds as they can to stock up in the chemist shops.
Meanwhile, press sources said that so far pharmaceutical companies and the underground organisation concerned have not worked out any solution in connection with the monetary demand.
