Imphal, October 04: The Manipur University Contractors' Association constituted by contractors who have registered in MU and have been issued identity cards has appealed to the MU authority not to forfeit their rights and what is due to them.

In case the MU Vice-Chancellor, Registrar and the Engineering Department continue to ignore the rights of the contractors, the President of India, DoNER Minister and the Governor will be apprised of the alleged irregularities of the MU authority.

Moreover, the Association will launch various forms of agitation against the MU authority.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, secretary of the MU Contractors' Association N Suranjoy alleged that the registered contractors have been denied to work in Manipur University while contract works are being allotted to unregistered contractors under nepotism and favouritism of the MU authorities.

Altogether 15 contractors were registered in Manipur University in MU during first phase in 2004 followed by another 29 contractors during second phase in 2005.During registration of these contractors, special class contractors were made to deposit Rs 2 lakhs each as fixed earnest money in the name of the Registrar MU.

Likewise, first class contractors were made to Rs 1 lakh each and second class contractors Rs 50,000 each.

In total 61.50 lakhs were deposited.

Rather than allotting contract works to the registered contractors, the MU authority has been indulging in nepotism and favouritism and allotting contract works to unregistered contractors.

After execution of contract works, the registered contractors were forced to sign in the work orders, conveyed Suranjoy.

The MU authority not only refused to provide the list of work programme but also refused to divulge the details of works executed, he alleged.

Even as the contract works were allotted to unregistered contractors, the necessary work orders were issued in the names of registered contractors.

The registered contractors were forced to give their signatures only after completion of the contract works, said president of the association L Imo.

Further, the registered contractors were also denied tender forms.

In some cases, signatures of registered contractors were found forged.

Even as the contractors tried to talk with the MU authorities, the latter never gave proper response, lamented Imo while expressing strong resentment against the attitude of MU authorities.
