Imphal, January 03 2008: Most teachers have been violating their professional ethics and this has been causing serious impedance to education, said Vice-Chancellor of Manipur University, Prof C Amuba.

The VC was speaking at the 7th foundation day of DESAM at Kangla hall today.

Highlighting the momentous responsibility of teachers in improvising and refining education, he asserted that teachers can fulfil such paramount responsibility only when they abide by their professional ethics.

He observed that most people in different professions have also been violating their professional ethics in Manipur.

Students have also been straying away from their duties and have given up polite manner.

Effects of these twin problems of students and teachers are reflected well in the ailing education system of Manipur, the VC noted.

He further called upon both teachers and students to abide by their ethics and to discharge their duties prudently and politely.

The foundation day function was graced by Prof C Amuba as chief guest and DESAM president in-charge LC Santosh as functional president.

President of the All Manipur Government College Teachers' Association H Rajendra, FECTA president P Laingam, vice-president of the All Manipur Government Higher Secondary Lecturers' Welfare Association M Debendra, AMRPSWA advisor N Tomba and CBSE monitoring cell chairman Ch Nabakumar were guests of honour of the function.

Giving key-note address of the function, DESAM assistant secretary general SM Ahesan observed that the existing education system which should impart knowledge necessary to fight back all challenges to the identity of the nation remains pathetic.

This is in addition to the worsening social, political and economic condition of Manipur.

The driving force for development all over the world is human resources development but the education system being followed in the State does not to cater to the need for human resources development, he said.

Citing students movement of March 22, 1968 in France, Myanmarese students' movement from March to September in 1988 and Chinese students' movement of 1989 which reportedly re-shaped and re-oriented the politics of these countries, SM Ahesan asserted that it's time for students of the State to unite together and fight against all challenges and misplaced policies.

Speaking at the occasion, DESAM president in-charge LC Santosh declared that the primary tasks of DESAM for 2009 is to work for unification of all ethnic based student bodies and to bridge the gap between civil societies and the people.

Observing that relevant sides seem to pay little attention to the call for making education a free zone, P Laingam asserted that there can be no improvement in the education scenario until and unless education is made a free zone.

In commemoration of DESAM foundation day, its volunteers donated blood today.

Moreover, seven teachers were also conferred the Chingu Maichou Khongnangthaba Award 2008.Teachers who have been honoured with the award include Headmaster of Khurai Primary School H Upendra, Headmaster of Chingdong Leikai Govt Aided P/S, Jiribam Mutum Babusana, Oinam H/S (Bishnupur district) Headmaster Sorokhaibam Tomba, Lalambung P/S Headmaster Haobijam Tomba, Assistant Headmaster of Top Siphai Govt P/S Wangoi Yumnam Manisang, Headmaster in-charge of Athokpam Jr H/S (Thoubal district) Nongmaithem Ibopishak and Headmistress in-charge of Kakching Turel Wangma P/S Sougaijam Memcha.
