A two-day induction training programme for the newly appointed graduate teachers of School Education Department has begun from today at Kebol Girls� High School, Tera Bazar even as the Government has decided to provide free coaching facilities students of class VIII to XII studying in Government schools.
The training programme being held under the guidance of Zonal Education Officer, Imphal West Zone-I was inaugurated by School Education Director and Joint Secretary M Harekrishna, former ZEO A Damodar Sharma and Additional Director (Hills) C Hangshing as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
Resource persons who spoke at the occasion dwelt at length on the existing standard of education in the Government schools, existing disparity between the Government and private schools and the role of teachers in this regard as well as in effective implementation of the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan scheme in Manipur.
In his address as chief guest of the function, Harekrishna announced that the State Govt has set up a panel of qualified teachers for providing free coaching classes to students of class VIII to XII studying in Government schools on an experimental basis.
The first phase of the experiment would be held at Imphal and if it is successful then the facilities would be extended to other districts as well, Harekrishna said, while informing that the Govt is also considering rectification of the existing RRs to help in appointment of qualified teachers and facilitating regular meetings of the teachers and parents at schools.
While observing that there is no other resources other than human resource for development in Manipur, the officer said those who are in the teaching profession have a great role to play in this regard.
�If the teachers perform their duty sincerely then it is well and good, otherwise all of us would sink together�, he said while appealing to the teachers to discharge their duty efficiently.
In his presidential address of the inaugural function of the training programme, A Damodar indirectly hinted at the deteriorating standard of education in the Govt schools by observing that once the results of the class X examination which is due to be announced at any time is announced, none of the officials of the Department would be able to able to sit in peace at the dismal performance of the Govt school students.
Students studying in the Govt schools are the neglected lots even by their own parents, while the teachers only insist on their rights without ever understanding the corresponding duties, he added.
