Imphal, January 31:
Along with busting of a fake certificate racket in Manipur by Manipuri Students Federation (MSF), the Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur has annulled the examination given by nine students for the Higher Secondary Examination and the Higher Secretary (Compartmental) Examination by using fake certificates, marksheets and transfer certificates.
Out of the nine students, six of them have been detected from Model English Higher Secondary School, Saikul, two from Presidency College, Motbung and one from Damdei Christian College, Kanglatongbi.
The Council issued the order for cancellation of the examination of these nine students on January 8 and the same have been forwarded to the Principals of the schools and students concerned.
Disclosing this during a press conference at the office of MSF today, president of the student body S Sanjoy has asked the main accused who supplied the fake certificates to surrender to MSF within 10 days.
The main accused is identified as L Basanta, the Principal of Ereima Evergreen School located at Ikou Bazar.
Sanjoy said MSF started investigating into the matter in mid-December last year after getting information that fake certificates are being used for admission in schools to appear in the examination conducted by Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur.
During the course of the investigation, it was found that Basanta had provided the fake certificates brought from outside Manipur to the nine students after charging anywhere between Rs 6000 to 9000. On the basis of these fake certificates, the students got admission and appeared in the Higher Secondary Examination, 2006 and the Higher Secondary Compartmental Examination, 2006. Though the results of these examination have been declared, the examination given by these nine students have been cancelled by the Council, Sanjoy said.
It is really unfortunate that the Council could not detect the fake certificates at the time of admission of the students, he said.
