Imphal, March 25:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has cried foul over the manner of constructing Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) under ICDS with DRDA concerned as implementing agency in different parts of the State.
In a statement, secretary social welfare of the students body KC Ibomcha contended that all the laid down norms have been flaunted in the ongoing construction work of 655 Angawadi sets for the 2nd phase as well as for the 660 sheds already constructed in the 1st phase.
Detailing the reports of the finding of a team of DESAM which have inspected these works, Ibomcha said these sheds have been constructed and used as personal properties apart from the fact work quality has not been maintained in some cases.
The angawadi shed at Bishnupur ward no.4 has been constructed in the Ingkhol of one advocate Ibomcha and the same is being occupied by his own brother, the statement said, while asking the advocate to come to the head office of DESAM at the earliest possible.
While the angawadi shed at Kongpal Kongkham Leikai has not maintained quality, the one at Lilong Tamyai Sumang is being constructed next to the kitchen of worker Mamtaj Begum.
On the other hand, the construction of the angawadi sheds at Lilong Khunou Awang Leikai and Lilong Hangamthabi have not progressed beyond the foundation.
Apart from not maintaining quality, the shed at Haoreibi Mayai Leikai is being used by its worker Suriya Begum for storing her household goods.
In the light of these anomalies, the students body wondered how the fund had been released by the DCs and the District Project Officers concerned without verification of the works implemented.
