Imphal, June 11:
Although the Health Dept has announced open counselling of the selected candidates of MBBS/BDS course for allotting the institutions based on their merit, the same is not likely to be done so with the Department allegedly under pressure from the Government side to refrain conducting open counselling.
According to information revealed by a reliable source to The Sangai Express, the open counselling is being done to ensure that the candidates get admission to the institutions of their choice according to their merit and preference.
But with the Government giving pressure on the Health Department, the smooth conduct of the open counselling is likely face some hiccups.
The source disclosed that the parents and guardians of the selected candidates have started lobbing with the Chief Minister, Health Minister and others in the SPF Government for allotting the reputed and best institutions in favour of their wards.
In such a situation, a candidate, though meritorious, but has no money and connection, would be neglected and relegated, the source rued.
It is also the norm in other States to conduct open counselling for selected candidates for undergoing MBBS/BDS course.
There is more transparency in this method besides giving due credits to the meritorious candidates, the source pointed out.
