A two day Zeliangrong folk festival was inaugurated today at Bhagyachandra Open Air Theatre with Deputy Commissioner of Chandel, Norbert Disinang as chief guest and president of MEELAL, Chingsubam Akaba as president.
The Festival was unveiled with the traditional Hoi laoba and rendering of festival anthem.
In the evening session of the festival organised by the Society For Promotion of Community Task, Imphal, Chief Minister O Ibobi graced the celebration as chief guest where he remarked that Kabui culture is aged old and is known in foreign countries too.
While observing that the Kabuis are peace loving people who believe in the preservation of their indigenous culture, Ibobi emphasised that despite diversity Manipuris must strive for peace and unity in the State.
He also donated Rs 30,000 towards the successful organisation of the festival.
Every citizen is responsible to preserve our tradition and culture, said Power Minister Gaikhangam in his presidential address.
He further expressed wish that the festival may bring about closer ties among the peoples of hills and valley.
Later a sum of Rs 20,000 was donated to the coffer of the organisers.
Traditional folk dances and cultural shows by Lamkhil Kuki Cultural Research Centre, Haokip Veng, Performing Artistes Centre, Khurai Lamlong and Keishamthong Dance Troupe were the main highlights of the day.
