Organization bans 27 letter Meetei Mayek at Andro

Imphal, March 06: Andro Panam Ningthou Meihoubirol Meitei Mayek 35 Anji 36 a voluntary organisation of Andro area has today declared that no Meetei Mayek script except the 35 Meetei mayek letters would be allowed to be implemented in Andro area.

Speaking to media-persons at Andro, village chief of Andro Salam Kunjaki- shore who is also a member of the above mentioned organization stated that the 35 Meetei Mayek script originated from Andro area and added that the 27 letter Meetei mayek script recognised by the Govt is incomplete and faulty as it cannot not make up some of the words written in the Puya.

Informing that a school has also been set up in Andro area for imparting the 35 letter Meetei Mayek script to the students of the area, Kunjakishore urged the people of Andro to extend support to the works undertaken by the organisation members for the development of the 35 letter Meetei mayek script.

He also said that to present 27 letter Meetei Mayek script originally comprised of only 18 letters and another 9 letters were added by the people as they felt that the number of letters were insufficient.
