AMSU and DESAM today jointly organised a peace rally of students in Imphal East district as a mark of protest against the assault and subsequent abduction of MUSU president Kh Ashokumar and demanding his safe release unconditionally.
The peace rally commenced from Lamlong Higher Secondary School and snaked through Ayangpalli Road, Porompat Crossing, New Checkon Crossing and Tellipati before converging at the starting point again.
Hundreds of students from 10 different schools located in Imphal East district took part in the procession.
At the end of the rally, the participating students shouted slogans in union to condemn the abduction of MUSU president as well as for his safe release on humanitarian ground.
Sit-in-protest: Sit-in-protest continued to be held against abduction of MUSU president in front of the Main gate of Manipur University.
A large number of activists of Women Development Agency, Kiyamgei Awang Leikai took part in the demonstration demanding release of the abducted student leader.
On the other hand, the Thoubal district units of DESAM and AMSU organised Wakat Meephams at different parts of Thoubal district today demanding unconditional release of MUSU president and giving a clarion call to all concerned to stop harassing student community.
At Khongjom Bazar, the students of Standard English School took part in the Wakat Meepham.
The students of Kakching Girls H/S, Kakching Khullen Primary School, Model H/S, Kakching Wairi Jr H/S, Victory H/S, Kakching Hr Sec School, Standard English School, Kakching held the Wakat Meepham at Kakching Bazar.
Similar Wakat Meepham was also held at Wabagai Lamkhai Bazar under the aegis of DESAM, Hiyanglam-Wabagai-Sekmaijin Local Council where a large number of students participated.
Meanwhile, expressing serious concern over the unfortunate incident which happened on the campus of MU on Sep 6, Manipur University Officers� Assn has appealed for the safe release of MUSU president.
The Assn further appealed to all section of the society to maintain peace in the university campus.
