Following heavy landslides on the NH-53 during the last few days, Tousem area is presently facing acute shortage of food and other essential commodities.
According to reports received by the press, the area has been virtually cut off from the rest of the State for the last few days.
With no assistance coming from any quarter, most of the villages in the remote areas are currently facing a famine like situation with food stock running very low.
Some of the badly affected villages are Kittiyang, Kataangam, Poking, Mandu, Siklong, Longjon and Keimai, added the report.
Meanwhile, DC Tamenglong T Panmei has already intimated the State Govt on the matter and even urged the State Govt to acquire helicopter services from the Union Home Ministry for air dropping food material to Tousem from Tamenglong Hq.
Reports however stated that the Union Home Ministry has not been able to issue the green signal for using the helicopter even today due to the hostile weather conditions.
