Senior Superintendent of Police, Imphal West district has reported to the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) stating that a 25 year old girl of Lamdeng Khunou was raped by one I Santosh of the same locality on November 11, 2003 after luring her on false pretext of marriage, said a highly placed Commission source.
The complaint was made by the girl victim to the Officer in Charge of Lamsang police station, added the source.
The accused after committing the crime married another girl, it said adding Lamsang police, based on the complaint has registered an FIR and investigation launched.
Efforts are on to arrest the accused, the police report stated.
Upon perusing through the police report the Commission today registered the same as an MHRC matter for inquiry and asked the DGP to submit the progress of the investigation by February 16.Meanwhile, the MHRC has sought a detailed report from the DGP pertaining to alleged terrorizing of a family by personnel of Assam Rifles.
The rights panel pursued the proceeding yesterday following a complaint petition filed by one K Chaoyaima of Singjamei Thong Wangma Pukhrambam Leikai.
Chaoyaima, in his complaint alleged that on october 10, 2003 at about 11 pm the AR personnel accompanied by a local man named as Goyai Singh came to his (Chaiyaima) residence and severely bashed up his son - Boby, who is undergoing computer course at the Manipur University.
Two of his other sons - K Manojkumar and Manoranjan were also at the receiving end of the same security personnel who stormed at Chaoyaima's residence 17 days later the same year, added the complainant further accusing the security men of acting at the behest of Goyai who demanded Rs 55,000 from Chaoyaima's three sons.
He also stated that Goyai had issued threats over telephone to cough up the amount or face dire consequences resulting in the family fleeing to safer haven.
Due to intolerable physical hardships and mental depression the matter was intimated to Officer in Charge of Kakwa police station, further asserted the complainant.
