Imphal, August 29:
Paying befitting tributes to the martyr, the 76th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang was observed at the Haipou Jadonang Park, newly constructed near the Power House at Keishampat here where he was hung to death by the British on this day in 1931 on alleged charge of waging war against the imperialist.
Apart from Works Minister K Ranjit who was the chief guest of the function, Tribal Development Minister DD Thaisii and PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken were also present at the occasion as guest of honour and functional president respectively.

The chief guest led the other Ministers, MLAs and the people in offering floral tributes to the photograph of Jadonang and observing two minutes silence as mark of respect to the departed soul at the occasion.
In his address as chief guest, PWD Minister K Ranjit said the manner in which Haipou Jadonang was taken to the gallows by the British without a proper trial at the instigation of some vested interested parties should be condemned by one and all.
Such anti-social elements are still present in our midst today carrying on with their devilish schemes of setting up one group of people against another group of people.
So we should stand guard against such elements, he said.
If one really loves Manipur, whether it be the Government or the leaders of the NGOs and social organisations, they should stay away from causing misunderstanding and animosity among the people.
Otherwise, instead of paying homage and offering floral tributes, the future generation would like to spit on their faces, the Minister said.
What is happening in Manipur today is nowhere to be seen in other parts of the world.
This is too much, he added.
In his address as guest of honour, TD Minister DD Thaisii pointed out that Haipou Jadonang sacrificed his life for the cause of freedom.
He was a tribal leader yet he was an epitome of unity and oneness of all.
Exhorting the people to look within their conscience and ask themselves how patriotic they are, Thaisii observed that giving undue interference in the process of taking up developmental work of the State is not the sign of patriotism.
Developmental process has to go on and it should not be hampered, he added.
PDA Chairman Dr Kh Loken who presided over the function called upon the people to stand united and fight against forces of disintegration.
He also assured that the Government would make sure that the Park which has been constructed in remembrance of Haipou Jadonang and his sacrifice live up to its name.
The Zeliangrong Rachapriak PhomAMN and TRC, Khoupum Valley, Nungba Sub-Division also observed the 76th death anniversary of Haipou Jadonang at Kalum Kai, Chingmeirong and Kalum Kai, Khoupum respectively.
The devotees offered floral tributes and observed one minute silence as mark of respect to the martyr.
Many prominent speakers spoke at lenght on the life, achievements and sacrifice of Haipou Jadonang at the occasion.
