After Chandel, Senapati and Andro/Yairipok areas, hail storms have devastated the IT Road areas.
A devastating hailstorm occurred in the IT Road areas on Tuesday evening causing immense loss to the farmers of numerous villages.
But the most hard hit villages were Thonglang Akutpa which is also known as Bena and Thonglang Atongba or Bena Tababang.
Kanajam, Masiram, Nhengram, Mbingram, Tanibaoguke, Maran, Maganku, Heku, Mpegu and Kapum are some of the areas in the two Thonglang localities along the IT Road that had been damaged by the natural calamity.
Thonglang Atongba village chairman Kahupou Charenamei and Thonglang Akutpa village chairman Zinkulakbou Ngounamei alias Khangbou informed NNN today that an area about ten thousand hectares had been damaged by the Tuesday hailstorm in their localities.
The two chairmen narrated the fury of nature that had created havoc in their villages saying that many paddy fields had been completely destroyed by the hailstones that showered in the Tuesday evening at around 5:30. About Rs 4 lakhs worth of cash crops had been damaged in the calamity, added the two village chairmen.
Mention may be made that Thonglang/Bena areas are good for growing potatoes.
Every year the people in the area earned lots of money by selling potatoes.
Women folks and farmers are seen weeping after the calamity had struck the area causing grave damage to the standing crops.
The village authorities drew the attention of the Government to address the problem at the earliest or else the people in the area may face further difficulty.
That section of IT Road area falls under Senapati district.
