Security forces have arrested eight underground activists, including five KCP (MC), two of the KYKL organisation and one UNLF from different places in the last 48 hours.
Five KCP-MC (Lamyanba Khuman group) including a woman involved in extortion and extortion related threats have been arrested by Imphal West commandos this morning.
Parading the arrested UG cadres together with the weapons seized from them at commando complex here today, Imphal West Additional SP (Operations) Dr AK Jhaljit said that Imphal West commandos first apprehended one Phuritshabam Sunish alias Surjit (26) s/o Manglemba from an oil pump located at Uripok at about 8.30 am.
Sunish of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai was a former cadre of PREPAK.
He joined KCP-MC under one Sagolsem ongbi Chanchal alias Mona of Kakwa Nameirakpam Leikai not long ago.
Mona worked under one self styled Imphal West district commander Boby.
He used to direct his activities from Guwahati where he has been reportedly putting up.
All this information was revealed by Sunish, Jhaljit said.
Sunish had collected Rs 5000 each from lecturers of GP Women�s College and Imphal College.
He also asked one Forest Ranger named Rajen of Sawombung Forest Gate to contact the party by giving the cellphone number of Boby.
Acting on the disclosure of Sunish, four other cadres of the outfit were also arrested.
The have been identified as Athokpam Bikramjit (25) s/o Doren of Tera Loukrakpam Leirak, Kshetrimayum Bhanu (35) d/o Natum of Uripok Bachaspati Leikai, Lukram Thambou alias Monsi (23) s/o Akendrajit of Uripok Khumanthem Leikai and Aribam Johny (25) s/o Chandrakumar of the same locality.
Police commandos also recovered two 9 mm pistols, two magazines, two live rounds, one Chinese hand grenade, 20 blank letterheads of KCP-MC and 20 other signed demand letters.
Sunish reportedly disclosed that the recovered items were given to him by Bhanu Devi for use in extortion and threatening people.
All the five arrested cadres confessed that they received 10 to 15 per cent of the amount they collected, said the Additional SP.
Meanwhile, Imphal West district police commandos apprehended two KYKL activists from near Moirangkhom Oil Pump at around 6.35 pm yesterday.
A release of SSP (IW) L Kailun issued today identified the two as Khangabam Surjit Singh (46) s/o L) K Brajakumar of Wangkhei Keithel Ashangbi and Gurumayum arjun Sharma (35) s/o (L) G Gyaneshwor Sharma of Wangkhei Thangapat Mapal.
Surjit reportedly disclosed of working under the command of one Kumar of the KYKL Imphal west/East Finance Section.
They disclosed of being assigned to extort money from Government department under the instruction of Kadamjit, the SSP said while revealed that the extorted money was deposited at account No.174/2087 of Kadamjit.
Two cheques of Imphal Urban Cooperative Bank in the name of Kh surjit and signed by Kadamjit were seized from Surjit's possession, it added.
On the otherhand, the UNLF cadre identified as Keisham Ningthowal (20) s/o K Iboncha of Takhel Maning Leikai was apprehended during the course of an operation conducted by troops of 23 Assam Rifles in the general area Takhel at around 1.45 am of February 26, said a PRO/IGAR (S) release.
The apprehendee has been handed over to Lamlai police station, it added.
