Imphal, May 25:
Titular king of Manipur, Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba has come down heavily over the manner in which Chief Minister O Ibobi reacted to the Welcome to South Nagalim banner that greeted him during a recent visit to Senapati district headquarters.
"He went to Senapati not as O Ibobi Singh but as the Chief Minister of Manipur.
If I were him I would have skipped the function and taken necessary action against the people who put up the banner," said Leishemba while talking to media persons during the oath taking ceremony of the new office bearers of MEELAL today afternoon.
"We cannot tolerate such matter.
If the Chief Minister still remains silent over the matter then the territorial integrity of Manipur is at stake, I believe.
It only creates tension.
I wonder how such a responsible person reacted to the incident by merely smiling," Leishemba said.
Earlier the Chief Minister had skirted the issue by stating that the banner was an individual's expression of thought which cannot be prohibited in a democracy.
The new office bearers of MEELAL who took oath today included its president Ng Yumjao Meitei, S Tomba (Vice President) and others.
