Imphal, December 24: Against the heartless murder of Shamjetshabam Ichal alias Thambaltombi on December 17 in the Nongmaiching hills after raping the 10 year old girl, an indefinite sit-in-protest was launched by the people of Andro today.

The protestors are urging the authorities concerned to book the culprits and to award appropriate punishment at the earliest.

The sit-in-protest at Andro Bazar is being held under the aegis of the JAC Against the Killing of Sh Thambaltombi (Ichal), Andro Awang Leikai.

The protest sitting was participated by a large number of members belonging to All Andro Meira Paibi Association, Huikap Meira Paibi, Uchol Meira Paibi and 19 local clubs of Andro area and students of Dam High School.

The protestors held placards and festoons reading "Murderers of innocent student are enemies of the society", "Government should pull up the murderers immediately", "Do away with the tendency to kill innocent people", "the rapists and murderers of Ichal were wild savages" etc.

In addition to the indefinite sit-in-protest staged by about 600 persons, the road to and from Andro were also blocked using timbers and boulders.

Speaking to The Sangai Express, president of the JAC Sh Chaoren disclosed that with the registration of a case in connection with the murder of Ichal, the Yairipok Police have been asked to pull up the culprits as soon as possible.

Unfortunately, no arrest has been made till date in connection with the heartless murder, he lamented.

As such, a memorandum urging to book the criminals would be submitted to the State Government, Chaoren mentioned.

He further warned that the JAC would launch strong agitation with the help of the people of Manipur in case the State Government fails to deliver justice on the murder case.
