Imphal, May 21:
Concerning the death of Kangabam Brajachand (45) of Hiyanglam Lai Panganba, who succumbed to injuries after being physically assaulted by one Elangbam Kartik of Hiyanglam Warakkhong on May 18, the KYKL has clarified that it has nothing to do with the incident.
A statement issued by deputy secretary of the outfit's publicity and research, Apabi Mangang disclosed that it had conveyed to the family of the deceased that earlier Kartik was its local volunteer but about three months back the outfit has snapped all connections with Kartik and as such the family and the local people have been told to do whatever they think fit on the crime.
In a telephone conversation with Gopeshwor, elder brother of Brajachand at 2:15 pm of May 19, assistant commanding officer of KYKL Litpana conveyed the position of Kartik in the party that since three months back any form of interaction and connection between the outfit and Kartik was terminated on account of his activities alien to revolutionary movement and his irreparable behaviour.
In response, Gopeshwor expressed gratitude on the clarification while informing that they (Kangabam family) were constrained to seek a clarification from the armed organisaiton as the accused perpetrated the crime under the outfit's name, recounted the statement.
The same version of the outfit was also presented to a relative of the deceased who also happens to be a leader of a civil organisation, it asserted.
As all the necessary clarifications were made to the family members in time, it was quite unnecessary to make any more clarification through mass media and accordingly KYKL abstained from publication in mass media, said the outfit.
On the other hand, Kartik was never a cadre of KYKL and the assault on the victim was done without any arm or in the company of any armed activists.
As such the fact stands that the brawl was between a man in inebriated state and a youth as a consequence of their personal animosity, noted the statement.
The outfit questioned the motive behind the attempt to brand KYKL responsible for the crime perpetrated by some one who is presumed to be close to the outfit even though it was clear that KYKL had nothing to do with the crime.
KYKL is of the firm belief that acknowledgement or denial of any activity through mass media could not be a yardstick to ascertain the truth of the matter.
Just as it has the courage to confess to any of its wrong doings, it has the same calibre to deny any allegation that is baseless.
This is the basic principle of KYKL, it declared.
As such deliberate attempt by the JAC constituted in connection with the killing of Brajachand to entangle KYKL in the issue would never be accepted.
It once again reiterated that KYKL has nothing to do with the killing of Brajachand and asked the JAC as to what it wants from KYKL.
Taking strong exception to the repeated use of the outfit's name in mass media, it inquired if there is any benefit to the JAC from such defamatory exercise.
The statement noted that it was most unfortunate for the JAC to paint KYKL as an accused during the public meeting convened today by treating Kartik as KYKL itself.
