A man in his mid 30s has been admitted to Shija Hospital last night with gun-shot wound he reportedly sustained nearly a month back.
Identity of the injured person established as Wahengbam Rabichandra (35) s/o Ibocha of Sekmaijin is informed to be a political worker of Hiyanglam AC�s CPI candidate Elangbam Biramani (MLA).
Sources said that Rabichandra was wounded at the MLA�s Langmeidong Mamang Leikai residence on January 23 night when a service weapon (SLR) allotted to Biramani�s security escort accidentally went off when a civilian picked up a bundle of flag kept on a table.
The weapon with the safety clip off was left on the table concealed under the bundle of flags by the security escort.
As the civilian picked up the flags a bullet went off hitting Rabichandra on the back.
No report had been filed at Kakching PS under whose jurisdiction langmeidong falls, said the source and added that doctors have detected a bullet lodged near his heart.
