Bringing down the curtains over months of campaigning among the regional political parties for formation of a formidable regional political force to take on the national parties, former president of Federal Party of Manipur (FPM) Dr L Chandramani has been elected as the president of the ad-hoc committee of MPP formed by three different regional parties.
Coming together of Federal Party of Manipur (FPM), Democratic Revolutionary People's Party (DRPP) and Manipur People's Party (MPP) under one platform is expected to a script a new chapter in the political history of Manipur.
Addressing a press conference at MPP office late last night, convenor of the Preparatory Committee Dr Nimaichand Luwang announced that as agreed by the Preparatory Committee all the three regional parties would adopt the office, the name, registration number, flag and symbol of MPP and there would be no regional parties by the name of FPM and DRPP any more.
All the members of the two regional parties will also become members of MPP, he said.
Luwang further disclosed that MPP president L Borajao and vice president have resigned from their respective posts with immediate effect.
Before resigning from the post of the president, Borajao had also dissolved all the office bearers, Central Committee, Working Committee, Election Committee, Disciplinary Committee, Youth Fronts Student Front and Chanura Marup on September 17, he added.
With the resignation of the president and dissolution of the committees and frontal organisations, an adhoc committee of the party has been formed with Dr Chandramani as its president, Luwang announced, and added that along with it the Preparatory Committee has also been dissolved with immediate effect.
Speaking during the late night press conference attended by many political figures like Salam Ibohal, S Gopal, Udoi Thongam, RK Anand and Chingsubam Akaba among others, newly elected ad-hoc committee president Dr Chandramani lauded the contribution of all those who played major roles in uniting all the regional political parties.
While urging all to keep aside their political differences and walk together on the chosen path, Dr Chandramani informed that in view of the necessity to expand the party setup, the Constitution of MPP would be amended during the party's conference scheduled to be held on September 24.For smooth functioning of the newly formed adhoc committee, three working presidents, six vice presidents, nine general secretaries, nine joint secretaries and the presidents of the frontal organisations have also been appointed.
The working presidents are former MPP president L Borajao, former DRPP president Udoi Thongam and MPP Legislature Wing leader Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
The vice presidents are AK Sanaton, Md Asraf Ali, P Achou, L Jayentakumar, RK Anand and Dr M Jitendra.
Md Ayub Khan is the treasurer.
N Ojit, L Bimola and Roshan have also been appointed as the presidents of Youth Front, Chanura Marup and Students' Front respectively.
