In a rare case, a huge tumour originating from the 11th rib on the ride side of chest and the growth extending into chest cavity of a patient has been operated and successfully removed by a team of doctors at Catholic Medical Centre, Koirengei on April 17 .
According to Director of the Medical Centre, the tumour measuring 15 cm in length, 10 cm in width and 7.5 cm in thickness was removed from the patient identified as T Kimdina (21) w/o Patrie of Maram Village.
As informed by the patient, the tumour was detected two years back and its size increasing slowly.
The team of doctors who performed the rare medical feat include Dr L Ibobi (Orthopaedic, Arthroscopic and Spine Surgeon), Dr Ng Javan, MS, MRCS (Edinburgh), Dr Megharat Meitei and Anaesthesia team, the Director said in a statement.
