Imphal, November 18:
To press their demand, labourers in unorganised and agricultural sector would be taking out a march to Parliament on November 23.To participate in the same, 200 labourers from Manipur would be leaving Imphal for the national capital tomorrow.
Trade unions and other independent sectors would also jointly call a country-wide general strike on December 14 if the UPF Government fails to take up the demands of the labourers working in unorganised and agricultural sectors during the forthcoming winter session of the Parliament.
Addressing a press conference in connection with the proposed march to Parliament of November 23 and the all-India general strike on December 18 at Irabot Bhavan here today, president of All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur State Committee Dr M Nara said that the movement to be launched by the trade union this time would be a historic one.
He lamented that for the last many years no one has really paid attention to the problems being faced by more than 34 crores labourers working in unorganised and agricultural sectors.
They have not been recognised as work force nor given their due rights, he added.
Although the UPA Government has given its commitment in its common minimum programme to look into the rights and wages of the unorganised labourers, the same has not been implemented till date, he rued.
So the proposed march to Parliament on November 23 would highlight the undoings of the UPA Government, he informed, adding that if the Centre still remains indifferent to the plights of the labourers despite the march to Parliament, an all-India general strike would be called on December 14.
